Self-employed take-home pay calculator
Profit is not pay: the tax bill comes out of it later. Put in your profit for the tax year and this gives a rough picture of what to set aside. It is an estimate, not a tax return.

What it counts
Income tax on profit above the £12,570 personal allowance (20% to £50,270, 40% to £125,140, 45% above, with the allowance tapering away over £100,000) and Class 4 National Insurance (6% on profit between £12,570 and £50,270, 2% above).
What it leaves out
Scotland, which has different bands. Other income such as a job, student loan repayments, pension contributions, Class 2 (voluntary at these profits) and payments on account. If any of those apply to you, treat the result as a floor and check it properly.
The point is the set-aside
Most people are caught out by the lump on 31 January. The set-aside figure is the share of each pound of profit to put away so the bill is not a surprise.

Keep the number for every month
SideTill is the simple record of your side hustle: log the job, send the invoice, record the money when it comes in, and see whether the month actually made you money. It also shows your best month, so you can tell a bad month from a bad habit.

Questions
Is this tax advice?
No. It is a rough estimate from the published rates. SideTill is not tax software and does not file anything with HMRC.
Is it profit or income?
Profit: what you took in minus allowed costs. Use the trading allowance checker on this site if you are deciding between costs and the £1,000 allowance.
Does it include Class 2?
No. Class 2 is voluntary once profit passes £7,105, so it is not added here.
